How to Snooze Notifications for Individual Apps on Android

Android’s Notification Snoozing feature lets you mute the distracting apps without losing the important ones.

Putting your phone down to focus on work or take some time off isn’t going to be very effective if new notifications keep going off. Some notifications will alert you to important information that you don’t want to miss, while others offer little more than an annoying distraction. Luckily, Android lets you snooze notifications on an app-by-app basis to address this.

So if you want to temporarily mute the unnecessary notifications without missing the important ones, you need to learn how to snooze notifications on your Android device.

What Is Notification Snoozing?

Unlike Android’s Do Not Disturb mode, which mutes all notifications on your device, Notification Snoozing lets you mute notifications from certain apps, while allowing others to keep coming through. In fact, you can even use this feature to snooze particular notification channels within an app.

For example, if you use multiple accounts in Gmail, each account will have its own notification channel. That means you can snooze a single channel to stop getting notifications for one email account, without affecting the others. Different apps use lots of different notification channels.

Although you won’t get alerted while Do Not Disturb mode is on, notifications still queue up on the notifications panel. This makes it easy to get distracted by the messages waiting for your attention.

In contrast, snoozed notifications won’t appear in the notification panel until the snooze period is over, which can help you boost your productivity by looking at your phone less often during that time. You can snooze notifications for:

  • 15 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 1 hour
  • 2 hours

At the end of that time period, you’ll get alerted of those notifications as normal again.

How to Enable Notification Snoozing in Android

You need to enable the Notification Snoozing feature before you can silence notifications from individual apps. You can find this option in your notification settings.

To allow Notification Snoozing for Samsung devices:

  1. Open your phone’s Settings and go to the Notifications page.
  2. Go to Advanced settings.
  3. Locate the Show snooze button and switch it on.

If you are using a different Android device:

  1. Open your phone’s Settings.
  2. Go to Notifications or Apps and Notifications.
  3. Look for the Allow notification snoozing option and ensure it is on.

How to Snooze App Notifications in Android

After you enable Notification Snoozing, follow these steps to snooze different app notifications:

  1. Swipe down to open the Notification Panel.
  2. Open the notification’s dropdown menu by tapping the down arrow or long-pressing it.
  3. Select the Snooze icon, which appears as a bell or clock, and choose the amount of time you want to snooze it for.

How to Stop Snoozing Notifications in Android

Android doesn’t make it easy to stop snoozing notifications before the time period is up. The only option is to disable Notification Snoozing in your settings again, which will stop snoozing all your notifications at once.

The only other alternative is to find your snoozed notifications from the Notification history page in the Settings:

  1. From the Settings, select Notifications.
  2. Go to Advanced Settings (non-Samsung users can skip this step).
  3. Open Notification history. You’ll see a list of your recent or snoozed notifications.

Get More Control Over Your Android Notifications

Enjoy fewer distractions by snoozing your notifications one app at a time. This way, you can keep getting the notifications that matter without worrying about the ones that don’t.

If you want to take it to the next level, you can also change the notification sounds for different apps. This can be another useful productivity hack if you choose different sounds for different types of notifications, so you can hear which ones are important and which ones aren’t.
