Need to delete a profile on your Xbox console? Here’s how to do so in seconds.
Need to delete a profile on your Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or Xbox 360? Perhaps you used to share a console with a friend or sibling, or maybe you don’t need your old account anymore. Either way, deleting a profile will do the trick.
This also comes in handy if you sign in on a friend’s console to play an online game together, then want to make sure you don’t leave it logged in afterward.
Whatever the case, you can easily remove old profiles and accounts on your Xbox console. Here’s how to delete profiles on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
What Happens When You Delete an Xbox Profile?
Let’s first quickly look at what happens when you remove an Xbox profile, so you know what you’re getting into.
This process only removes the account from being saved on your Xbox console. It does not delete the Microsoft account completely, so anything saved in the cloud, like Achievements or saved data uploaded to Xbox Live, is safe. You’re free to sign into the account on another Xbox using its sign-in info.
If you do want to close your Microsoft account permanently, see our guide to closing your Outlook account, which includes the same steps.
Otherwise, if there’s any local data on your Xbox that you haven’t synced to the cloud, you should do that before removing the profile. You’ll of course need to have your console connected to the internet to do this.
For Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, your data is synced to Xbox Live automatically as long as you’re online and signed in. For Xbox 360, you must have an Xbox Live Gold subscription, then head to Settings > System > Storage to make sure your saves are in the cloud and not only on your console.
See our instructions on backing up your game saves for more info. Once you’re sure that everything has synced, you can move on.

How to Delete Profiles on Xbox 360
