There are so many incredible consoles on the market—so much so that it can be overwhelming trying to decide which one you should get. You might consider many things when deciding which console you should get next. But Sony’s PS5 should tick most, if not all, of your boxes.
The PS5’s qualities make it one of the best consoles on the market currently. If you’re still undecided about whether to get the PS5 or not, we’re listing nine reasons why you should make it your next console.
1. You Have Options
If you like options, the PS5 has them. There are two consoles available for you to choose from. Whether you are an avid collector or prefer less clutter on your gaming shelf, you can pick between a PS5 with a disk slot or a digital-only version.
Which one would be best for you depends on how you game and what your collection looks like. Are you a hardcore gamer with a massive collection of physical games? You’re going to need the PS5 equipped with a drive so you can slot your game disks into your console.
But if you only play a game or two at a time or want the convenience of quickly switching between titles without the hassle of changing out the disk, the digital-only PS5 could be perfect for you. It is also cheaper than the disk version PS5, so that’s another bonus.
2. It Has Ray Tracing
If you are interested in experiencing the latest technology in terms of graphics, the PS5 can provide that for you. The PS5 was among the first consoles to support ray tracing, an advanced graphical technique that effectively and realistically simulates how light moves around an environment.
Ray tracing casts dynamic shadows and even produces reflections in water or glass. This technology is a massive jump for consoles, so if you’re pedantic about your graphics, the PS5 is up there with the leaders of the pack. The graphics power you get with the PS5 will not disappoint you.
3. Customizable Storage
The PS5’s modular storage setup could be a big plus for you if you have an extensive collection of games. The base console doesn’t come with an outlandish amount of storage, so if you find yourself running low, Sony makes it easy to beef this up.
The PS5 is very customizable when it comes to storage. The covers of the PS5 are removable to expose a dedicated spot where you can install a solid-state drive as an external storage device. Installing an SSD in your PS5 is incredibly easy and can boost your storage space to your heart’s (or wallet’s) content.
4. The DualSense Controller
So Sony released their next-gen console, and, of course, they had to include a next-gen controller to accompany it—the DualSense Controller. This controller lives up to the advancements of the PS5 and then some, making it one of the best controllers on the market to date.
It’s named after its ability to convey senses through minute vibrations, sounds, and even lighting effects to match the game’s environments. For example, the DualSense’s adaptive triggers feel different depending on what weapon you are using.
If your character is equipped with a bow and arrow, the trigger resists similarly to a bowstring in real life. But if you’re holding a gun instead, you can feel the trigger’s release on the controller every time you fire your weapon. It is an incredible piece of hardware that genuinely increases the immersion in your gaming experience.
If the DualSense controller piqued your interest, an elite version is coming in January 2023. We compiled everything you need to know about the DualSense Edge controller if you want to learn more about it.
5. A Great Library of Exclusive Games
The main reason you should purchase any gaming console is the titles you can play on it. After all, what use would you have for amazing technologically-advanced hardware if there are no games you can enjoy playing on it? Fortunately, you won’t run into this issue with the PS5.
The PS5 has a spectacular lineup of exclusive games that take full advantage of the console’s unique capabilities. Games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales shines on the console, perfectly exhibiting the system’s ray-tracing abilities.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is the latest entry in the Ratchet and Clank series that also takes full advantage of the PS5’s elite hardware. Despite the game occurring in many different worlds, you’ll find yourself hurtling through it with zero loading screens.
These and many more games like this show what the PS5 is capable of, and you can’t get them anywhere else.
6. It Has an Amazing Retro Library
Preserving relics of the past is increasingly important as time goes on and the games and consoles that play them become harder (and more expensive) to find. To combat this and keep the past alive, Sony has introduced a subscription service.
The most expensive branch of the service, PS Plus Premium, offers users access to a Classics Catalog which contains a selection of PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games. A subscription to PS Plus Premium costs $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year to access these relics of the past.

7. PS Remote Play
The PlayStation 5 also offers Remote Play, so you can access your games whenever you feel the urge to. PS Remote Play works by allowing you to access your PlayStation from your phone or any other smart device.
With a solid internet connection, you can pick up and play through any of your saved files on the bus, during your lunch break at work, or whenever you want to escape an awkward conversation during dinner with your parents.
PS Remote Play is PlayStation’s answer to Xbox GamePass. Check out our guide on how to set up and use PS Remote Play if you are interested in playing on the go.
8. PS VR2
If virtual reality interests you, then there is yet another reason to make the PS5 your next console. The PS VR was Sony’s first virtual reality headset used with the PS4. The system was overall a success, and now those with a PS5 can look forward to the new PS VR2.
The PS VR2 is a massive upgrade from the original PS VR, featuring improvements such as new controllers and a complete redesign of how the system tracks movement. To know more, you should check out everything we know about the PS VR2 for a full rundown of the system’s specs.
9. Cover Customization
If white’s not your color, no problem. The PS5 features easy-to-remove plates that can be replaced with a wide range of bright and quirky covers. These allow you to customize your console to better suit your personality or become the centerpiece of your cabinet.
Changing the plates on your PS5 console seems daunting, but the process is incredibly easy, and the result is well worth your time and effort.
You Would Not Be Disappointed With the PS5
The PS5 is Sony’s best console to date, and you would not be disappointed if you picked one up to add to your collection. The specs are next-gen, the library of exclusive and retro titles will keep you entertained for hours, and the PS VR2 will satisfy even the most adventurous gamers.
There are many more reasons why the PS5 is a great console, but this list should hopefully make it easier to decide what console you want next.
